A Short-term Thang
Relationships, at least here in the self-centered West, have a specific pattern. When a couple meets, they feel each other out, they date, they make an assessment as to whether the person to whom they are attracted is worth the emotional effort, and if said couple falls in love, the couple decides to pursue a relationship. The understanding is always that the couple is pursuing a “long-term relationship”. The unspoken definition of a long-term relationship, as we have been led to believe, is one defined by no end date. A long-term relationship is supposed to be forever, .............more detail

Pivital Moments Excerpts
It was early March in Atlanta, Georgia. The feel of spring was in the air and the evening temperatures for the month were already staying near the seventy degree mark and the humidity, not to be outdone, was following closely. The sounds of the crickets, grasshoppers, and palmetto bugs were in full effect this late evening. He had already started nervously sweating while he‘d been standing outside, casing the house for almost half an hour..............more detail

How often do you look at yourself and say
How often do you look at yourself and say, “Umm you look good.” I’m sure hardly ever due to the pressures of work, school, bills, etc. Your body is your temple and your temple is what you make of it. Your beauty depends on how you label yourself. If you think and feel your body is unfit and nasty, then your beauty will be unfit and nasty. With no obstacles you need to love yourself, first of all, tomorrow is not promised. Very few people, indeed, are able to grow in love. Yet, it does happen, and when men and women are able to respect .............more detail

Why we shouldn't be dying to stay thick
The new year has come and like many folks, my number one resolution is to lose weight. Between my new job, traveling and writing, I started relying more on happy hour with co-workers to relieve stress, rather than hitting the treadmill. I finally admitted to myself that it was time to get it tight and right for 2010, when I reached for my favorite dress a strapless corset sheath dress and that puppy wouldn't zip up..............more detail

Why Men Cheat
With last month's revelation about Tiger Wood's sexual transgressions, it compelled me to write about this extremely controversial topic. A topic women have asked about for millenniums. This article may be very long since there's a lot to discuss, so please bear with me. Before I begin, I just want to state that this article is solely my opinion and my opinion only. It is based on my own personal experiences as a single and married man and as a card carrying member of the club, something that I'm not particularly proud of. .............more detail

Commitment is one of those qualities that everyone seems to think he or she can define, until he or she is asked to define it. Recognizing committed couples is easier than describing one. One’s actions demonstrate commitment rather than their words.

Nephrologist Martin Pollak and his team found that a common genetic mutation of the APOL1 gene might be partly responsible for African Americans' susceptibility. The mutation likely arose due to natural selection because it protects against African sleeping sickness, Pollak wrote. Yet it also makes African Americans more vulnerable to kidney disease, according to the study released last month in the online issue of Science Magazine.
