Are You Addicted to Negative Thinking?
Barbara sought my help because of her chronic fatigue. She had been going to different kinds of doctors and trying different nutrition plans for years and nothing was helping her. One of the doctors suggested that she try psychotherapy. .............more detail

Foods That Boost Brainpower
Eat these for a sharp, young, and healthy mind Can your diet make you smarter? You bet. Research shows that what you eat is one of the most powerful influences on everyday brain skills, plus it may stave off Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, says Cynthia Green, PhD, founder and director of the Memory Enhancement Program at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and author of Prevention’s new Brainpower Game Plan book. .............more detail

I Love You
“I love you.” A few little words that mean so much, but whose meaning is a chasm of interpretation. Everyone lives to have someone speak their deep, heart feelings to them. But just because we hear what we want to hear, how do we know it means what we want it to mean..............more detail

My Journey(PT 2)
I checked in and boarded my flight with no real issues. I felt fortunate because I had managed to get a window seat in the bulk head and would have been able to stretch my legs. Once seated an attendant approached me and stated they had double booked my seat and asked if I wouldn’t mind moving to a seat on the back of the plane. Of course I obliged because after all I was flying on a buddy pass . I moved to the back and noticed I was to be seated in the last row in a middle seat. I remembered the last time I was in the middle seat I had no leg or elbow room and the old Italian codger that was seated next to me appeared to have an orgasm any time his knees rubbed against mine..............more detail

Where Is The Love?
As we go into the month of Febuary, most often our minds fall on the thought of Valentines Day, while others (of the black persuasion) may think of the more the historic significance of the month. Being a black woman who writes about romance I tend to think about both, and in keeping with my column "Smoking Mirrors" talking internetdating and relationships, I thought that 'd compose a lil something about 'Black Love.' .............more detail

Pivital Moments
However, Victor couldn’t know anything about that. He’d jacked “dude” for five hundred eighty-seven bucks and some change. Not a lot, but it’d buy something. It would also mean that “dude” would have to dip into his savings account this month to pay for his mother’s prescriptions, but Victor couldn’t know that either. He just happened to have had good timing when he’d robbed him because the guy had just gotten cash from the bank. He’d been headed to the drug store to pick up his mother’s prescription, when he realized he’d left her id card at the house and detoured home to pick it up..............more detail

Stop Being His Play Thing
Hey, Girl! How are you? I'm good. I don't quite know how to begin, but here goes. I’ve got a message for you that I think you won’t like. First of all, I have no animosity towards you. You're a lovely young woman and you deserve the best. I only want to help you. Whether you accept or decline my advice is totally up to you. The problem is that matters of the heart are very tricky. So you can take what I say to mean that I'm jealous or take it for what it is...I've got your back. But this must be said so that you and I both can be whole and can be free..............more detail

The Father of Black History
As we all know, February is the month we celebrate Black History and Valentine's Day. Since it's logical to discuss Valentine's Day on "Taking The Journey," it's equally illogical that we get to discuss Black History. I welcome the discussion of both topics, but it won't be between the love of a man and a woman, but between the love of a man and his passion..............more detail

Commitment is one of those qualities that everyone seems to think he or she can define, until he or she is asked to define it. Recognizing committed couples is easier than describing one. One’s actions demonstrate commitment rather than their words.

Nephrologist Martin Pollak and his team found that a common genetic mutation of the APOL1 gene might be partly responsible for African Americans' susceptibility. The mutation likely arose due to natural selection because it protects against African sleeping sickness, Pollak wrote. Yet it also makes African Americans more vulnerable to kidney disease, according to the study released last month in the online issue of Science Magazine.
