In the Heat of the Night Part 3
"I think the Sangria is done, let's go back outside and try to catch a breeze." I grabbed the pitcher and tried to maneuver my way back to the balcony without breaking my leg on a piece of furniture. I sat on the chaise lounge and loosened up my robe so my breasts would be exposed if I moved just a little. .............more detail

What’s your Passion?
I was listening to my pastor talk about finding your gifts or your passions in life. It really made me think. How many of us arepassionate about something we do? Do we have the freedom to find that gift, or are we too busy making money to pay the bills? Then my thoughts went to relationships. If we are not passionate about what we do in life, how can we be passionate witheach other?.............more detail

Dazon Dixon Diallo -- Sisterly Love at its Best
The year was 1985. True to the nature of students who attend Spellman and other historically Black colleges and universities, her commitment to community service occupied most of her free time. She was actively involved in the women's reproductive health movement, volunteering regularly at a local clinic in Atlanta..............more detail

It's Not About You
Not Really, Quite often, we attempt to establish a relationship based on our personal desires which is great, but it continues to get us nowhere. Do we ever stop to consider the Desires of the other individual?.............more detail

Sister
The early morning sun spilled in through the thin film of curtain, forcing my eyelids open. The blank walls of the bedroom were illuminated with the hues of yellows and oranges. Straight lines stretched across the room, above my body laying prone between the cotton sheets, calling me, compelling me to watch the performance..............more detail

Romance Is In The Air
I'm a writer of romance novels and as such I'm also an incurable romantic who believes that words sometimes speak louder than action and honesty is paramount. To me, romantic love is not a fantasy but it is the responsibility of the partners to ensure that the fire burns bright. I still believe in hearts and flowers; candlelight and wine; walks in the park or along the beach; snowy nights and warm fireplaces; and "anytime" rendezvous. .............more detail

Men who are chronically critical
Have you ever known a man who tells you you're not good enough in one way or another? Some men (and women too no doubt) hold on to a woman by making her feel that she's not quite good enough. They might even commit the unpardonable sin of comparing her to other women where she comes out as rating lower than the others. .............more detail

Being healthy is a proactive journey
Health is not about sitting on the sideline and letting someone else tell you what you should and should not do. Being healthy is about you being a leader in your personal quest for continual good health. Being healthy is for those who choose to make good strong health choices in the midst of seemingly insurmountable bad choices. If you are making bad health choices you are so not cool..............more detail

Twin Flame
It is my understanding, that in life, we meet several soul mates, people who come in our lives to help us resolve issues and grow spiritually. We feel an instant 'connection' with them, like we've known them forever. Soul mates are usually aligned with the same goals and have relationships that usually have a very harmonious tone to them but can dissolve when the purpose is fulfilled..............more detail

THE 'TOO-STRONG' BLACK WOMAN
Have you ever heard a black woman bemoan the lack of 'qualified brothers' eligible for her to date? Boy, have you! Have you heard about her being 'intimidating,' having to 'pretend' to allow a man to 'wear the pants,' or, in other words, about her just being too strong for the average black man?.............more detail

Commitment is one of those qualities that everyone seems to think he or she can define, until he or she is asked to define it. Recognizing committed couples is easier than describing one. One’s actions demonstrate commitment rather than their words.

Nephrologist Martin Pollak and his team found that a common genetic mutation of the APOL1 gene might be partly responsible for African Americans' susceptibility. The mutation likely arose due to natural selection because it protects against African sleeping sickness, Pollak wrote. Yet it also makes African Americans more vulnerable to kidney disease, according to the study released last month in the online issue of Science Magazine.
